You could have a look at xml2ly: it has already a very readable output and supports a lot of useful MusicXML features (most outstanding lack is lyrics, at present). You should find a copy in the recent archives of this list - or feel free to ask for it to me directly. I've never tested it on Windows, but should be fairly trivial to have it working.
