I've used Ubuntu, Mint XFCE, ALG¹ and (now) Arch. Never ran into a problem installing Lilypond or Frescobaldi, be it with a package manager (apt or pacman) or by copying the files to /usr/. Frescobaldi's "download Lilypond" works out of the box.
The only thing that might need some adjusting is the midi output: in arch I had to download and run timidity and hook it to my QJackCtl connection - really simple things that didn't come out of box working (in my specific case). ¹Arch Linux GUI. Basically an Arch live boot environment (like Ubuntu) that relied on the Calamares installer. Really good starter for Arch; sadly, the project was halted. Em dom., 5 de out. de 2025, 01:06, J. G.
