The culprit was the miktek environment... I've uninstalled it and
reinstalled all my other tex packages (I'm using standard Arch Linux,
kernel 6.14.6-arch1-1, XFCE and X11). Wiping the slate clean (uninstall of
MikTek and reinstall of every texlive package mentioned on the Arch wiki
that I've installed) finally gives the desired output.

the lilypond command executed leads to unmatching quotes. Can you perhaps

Before I uninstalled MikTek, the added argument didn't change the
output.... the log was identical and gave the same error.
Now, without MikTek, everything works - not needing any argument to the
package.

I was using Kile but now have switched to Texmaker; appending the shell
escape to the lualatex command gives me exactly what I was searching for!

Thanks to everyone involved, especially Valentin, Karl and Alexander!
