frecobaldi not recognizing lilypond

just starting with lilypond on MacBook Air.  Downloaded 2.24.4.  Get this 
message when testing setup -
 
Starting lilypond-2.24.4-darwin-x86_64.tar [Untitled]...
 
Could not start /Applications/lilypond-2.24.4-darwin-x86_64.tar.
 
Please check path and permissions.
 
Went to permissions and selected ilypond-2.24.4-darwin-x86_64.tar as the path.  
Still no linkage.  Do I need to do something else to get lilypad up and running 
so frescibaldi recognizes it?
