Noone will choose LilyPond output over Gregorio, but there are also use cases "LilyPond, you are currently all I have, please engrave this chant as well as you can, even if it won't be perfect". And mainly for these cases lilygabc should provide the convenience of including an existing score in the gabc format. Jakub
