I was about to suggest you are running on Linux - I've never seen this problem 
on Windows or macOS :)

I've had this very same problem some 1-2 years ago. For me the source had been 
upgrades/messing with fonts and font related SW on my system.

I no longer recall the exact details but I'm sure I had posted how I had solved 
this to the list. Off the top of my head I'd say it was some incompatible 
package that some instructions claim is required. That advice was correct about 
two years ago but since then has been superceded as being obsolete and in some 
cases counterproductive. But as I said, I don't recall the details.

I also recall that this problem appears every now and then. Therefor you should 
be able to find several posts dealing with this and possibly solutions in the 
list archives.
