Thanks everyone for all the great info! Both the examples and the explanation of how these properties work are really helpful.
It seems like including an argument in the engraver definition is the way to go, unless you need to manually change the behavior in the middle of a score. But maybe in many situations this isn't a bad test of how well thought-out the engraver is. Thanks again! Max
