I have the same thing happening to me (Mac OSX 10.1.5 Lilypond 1.6.0). But I don't have a decent midi player; just whatever IE5 brings up. So I wasn't sure if the fault was in IE5 or somewhere else.
I haven't been able to find a decent, simple to use, free midi player for OS X yet. I did find some sophisticated Java classes to process midi data, but there was no midi player application included with the classes.

Hi,
Howcome that whenever i use
\midi {
\tempo 4 = 120
}
in a score and then later try to slow it down changing 4 = 120 to 4 = 60 nothing changes in the .midi file, it stays the same speed?
I use Mac OS X and ly2dvi -P file.ly for every file i throw through lilypond.
