Well, I will eventually build on the wisdom of other guys, in particular the people from the 'gnulib' library, who deal with such platform-dependent inconsistencies all the time. See the `gt_LOCALE_FR_UTF8` macro in https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/gnulib.git/tree/m4/locale-fr.m4 for a typical example. > Wouldn't folks that publish document sets in several language and on > several platform also need this?
