If git-cl is nonexistent, then we need something to replace it ASAP. Also, I think that Bertrand is just being a good "open source citizen" by sending google rietveld a patch which allows proper git commits as patches. This change could simplify your life by quite a bit, and is almost entirely non-invasive. I see no reason to delay.
