A *fresh* install of debian's gs 8.5? Did you read section 1.2.3 on http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.9/Documentation/topdocs/INSTALL.html ? (ie the two ghostscript patches)
BTW, a minor bug: configure doens't check for imagemagick/convert, but make web requires that program.
