I mentioned one in my original email. I haven't investigated deeply,
but spent a few minutes to find missing example files that are linked
from within the manual, and came up with the following list:

In input/test/:

chords-without-melody.ly
lyric-hyphen-retain.ly
lyrics-melisma-faster.ly
lyrics-melisma-variants.ly
page-breaks.ly
to-xml.ly
unfold-all-repeats.ly

In input/regression/:

volta-chord-names.ly

Maybe this proves my point that the clean up of the example files
was done a bit too quickly. I think it is necessary to go through
the full list of removed files and reevaluate if they really deserved
to be removed.

So far, the arguments in favor of the "tip & trick" page have
basically been "information is hard to find in the manual," which IMO
suggests that we should improve the way how information can be looked
up.

Another reason for my original complaint was that several of the
previous examples have disappeared without being added to the
manual.

That was unintentional. Can you be specific what went missing?

I certainly realize that Bret's idea was to provide a complement
to the ordinary Index, but I'm afraid that a single such example will
be far too messy. Maybe we could try to device a set of 5-10 such
examples to get a reasonable compromise between complexity and
overview.

Agreed.
