I suppose that a special "windows" getting started has some merit, but the most important thing is that it is short. If it is longer than a screen-full or (say) seven steps, people will think that it is too complicated and move on. We could easily point to the windows getting-started from the windows download page. To combat the learning curve, I think that it would be better to write a simple program, where you can drag & drop a .ly file, which is then processed. If successful, either the PDF is put on the screen, or a window with error messages would be shown. My hunch is that such a mechanism comes more natural to Windows users.
