Mmh.  This means, that lily will probably crash with an assertion
failure if the user puts something like "blotiameter = \staffspace" into
the paper block...  Maybe a warning would be more appropriate here; but to
continue after such a warning, lily would have to do something sensible
like either reducing the blotdiameter argument (-> sharp edges, possibly
weird effects) or increasing the size of the shape to be drawn (-> has
same effect as my initial proposal...).
