It is crucial for a "healthy" libre/free software project that building is *easy* and the know-how to do that is known by the most people possible. This is the *only* way that one can even hope to get new (code / development) contributors. Getting people up to "can build" is IMHO by no means meaningless effort-duplication. >From a "free software politics" point of view, it also tips the balance of power away from the TDF to the users, which is a *good* thing.
