Looks to me that it is used quite much in LibreOffice. I might be wrong. It is used in an applications MS Office is communicating with. The BASIC macros are ported to LibreOffice. Now we got to make it run smooth. Well, this is only DDEML. And DDEML will never be removed from windows.
