For me the idea of the sidebar, is a way to manage a set of tools in a coherent and orderly, not a set of different elements working in the same place (or it appears to be ...). This would also help users / developers to be careful when creating new widgets or macros to run docked to the sidebar, and not find widget cut or overlapping.
