in Writer
Product: LibreOffice

Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

Description:
# Possible bug: Alt key does not resize basic shapes from the center in Writer
**Product:** LibreOffice Writer
**Version:** 26.8.11
**Operating System:** Windows
**Component:** Writer / Drawing Objects
## Description
When resizing images in LibreOffice Writer, holding the Alt key allows the
image to be resized relative to its center.
However, the same behavior does not work with basic drawing shapes (rectangles,
ellipses, etc.).
The Alt key has no effect when resizing basic shapes in Writer.
In LibreOffice Draw, the Alt key does affect shape resizing, but the shape
appears to resize relative to the upper-left corner rather than its center.
This may indicate inconsistent behavior between images and drawing objects, or
a regression in the handling of modifier keys.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open LibreOffice Writer on Windows.
2. Insert a basic shape, such as a rectangle.
3. Select the shape.
4. Drag one of its corner handles while holding Alt.
5. Observe that the shape does not resize from its center.
6. Insert an image and repeat the same operation.
7. Observe that the image resizes from its center.
Actual Results:
When resizing images in LibreOffice Writer, holding the Alt key allows the
image to be resized relative to its center.
However, the same behavior does not work with basic drawing shapes (rectangles,
ellipses, etc.).
Expected Results:
Basic shapes should resize from their center when holding Alt, consistently
with images.
Images resize from their center, but basic shapes do not.
In LibreOffice Draw, Alt changes the resizing behavior, but does not appear to
preserve the center as the reference point.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
The issue was observed in LibreOffice 26.8.11 on Windows.
The behavior should be checked against previous and newer versions to determine
whether this is a regression or an inconsistency in the implementation.
