            Bug ID: 173225
Summary: FORMATTING: Inconsistent line thickness options
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 26.2.4.2 release
          Hardware: All
                OS: Linux (All)
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: minor
          Priority: medium
         Component: Impress
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

Description:
(1) "LINE" DIALOG BOX

If you right-click on an object and select "Line" from the context-sensitive
menu, the dialog box allows the user to select the thickness of the object's
line border in cm.

The initial value is 0.1cm and the arrows to amend it increase/decrease it by
0.1cm each time. Even a 0.1cm line is quick "thick", forcing the user to
manually type in a value (e.g. 0.03) if they want a thin line border.

There is no option to set the line thickness in points, rather than cm.

(2) SIDEBAR

In the sidebar, line thickness is offered as a range of default point sizes
(0.5, 0.8, 1, 1.5, 2.3...).

This is better, in that it offers both thin and thick lines as default choices,
but it doesn't allow the user to type in the value they want.

Nor does it allow the user to make the selection in cm, rather than points.

PROPOSED CHANGE

Ideally, the sidebar and the "Line" dialog should operate in the same way with
regard to line thickness.

They should:

(a) Offer a choice of points or cm.

(b) Allow the user a sensible range of default options, from very thin to very
thick.

(3) Allow the user to type in a different value if they so wish.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Right-click on an object.
2. Select the "Line" option in the context-sensitive menu.
3. You will see that thickness is offered in cm, starting at 0.1cm (which is
quite thick) and changing in increments of 0.1cm unless the user manually types
in a different value.
4. Now click on the object again and open the sidebar.
5. Select Properties.
6. You will see that the line thickness is shown in points and can only be
changed to one of a number of default options - no way to type in a manual
value. Also note that the lower default options create a much thinner border
than 0.1cm.

Actual Results:
See above. Two different (and inconsistent) ways of selecting line thickness.

Expected Results:
Ideally, the same options should be offered however you choose to change line
thickness. Offer a choice of cm or points; a sensible range of default options,
from very thin to very thick; and the ability to manually change the value if
none of the defaults in satisfactory.

Reproducible: Always
