In the Welcome/first-run dialog, in the User Interface tab, if I choose the
"Tabbed" option, the text under the preview says:
"The tabbed user interface is the most similar to the Ribbons used in Microsoft
Office. It organizes functions in tabs and makes the main menu obsolete"
There are several problems here:
1. You can't organize things into tabs. The "tab" is just the small area on
top; the area with the buttons and widgets is still referred to as a toolbar
(see [1]); but these tall toolbars have tabs, and a toolbar is chosen using the
tabs on the top row of tabs.
2. The caption should describe the UI mode, not talk about aspects/elements of
other UI modes. The tabbed UI does not have such a thing as a main menu, so we
shouldn't talk about "the" menu, or the "main" menu.
3. The tabbed UI organizes buttons, or widgets, _by_ function. Or by category.
I wouldn't say it organizes _functions_
4. It's better to first describe the UI mode directly, then compare or relate
it to UI in other apps. So, even if we compare to MS Office, I'd make that the
second sentence.
I would suggest something like this:
"The tabbed user interface organizes buttons and widgets by category, into
several large toolbars, each having a descriptive tab at its top. Only one
large toolbar is visible at a time, but the tabs are all visible at the top;
we choose which toolbar to show by pressing its tab on that top row."
but I suppose others may prefer more conservative/limited changes to the text.
