That was true too.  Now you need a lot of room for both glibc and gcc. 
I just increased it to 3G as you should have a little extra anyway.  A 
full build is 2.5 G when done (1.3 of that are sources on my system 
right now, including expanded kernel sources), but there are 
intermediate files that are created when building that increase the 
needed space and are deleted when the package is complete.
