I can find that sort of space (on my current machines, but not the oldest one) in /scratch, which is where I've dumped all the "excess" disk space.
That is already where I'm going to be building (and where I keep git trees and do test builds with DESTDIR installs : none of it gets backed up!). But the thought of something using 7GB of disk space is *frightening* : -ETOOBIG.
