And that's what I did. I got booted successfully except that I learned that I had not set a password for root nor added any other users so I didn't get to "play."
If the goal was to get a working LFS system, I achieved it. If the goal was to learn more about Grub 2, I achieved it. If the goal was to manipulate grub successfully as the book says or to have it work like I've seen it work other places, I failed. Hopefully everybody noticed that I didn't say *you gotta change the book.* In my adventure that started with using jhalfs for the first time, I did notice some "disconnects." I'll take these to the 'dev' list. But for now, I have a working system. Thanks to all who helped, especially you Bruce. I'm grateful.
