That's not my experience. My /dev/hd* devices disappeared when I upgraded 2.6.27 to 2.6.28 and I have no /dev/sr* or new /dev/sd* devices. Hence, no access to my IDE drives or my CD. I Googled for answers but found nothing definite, just lots of faff with no details. I'd love some tips as to how to fix this: my core system is SATA but I have some holiday snaps I'd like to see!
