I haven't had a chance to check this out yet, but I built a kernel on the latest svn and started it up. I purposely did not have a network card right now, but the last entry in dmesg said 3.62 seconds. The scripts in the boot log start at 23:47:10 GMT and end at 23:47:13. Populating /dev took 2 seconds and that was the longest task. That felt very fast.
