Just a straight "make install" but keep in mind that  it was same version, just 
the patches added.  I also have backups of all installed files in tar.gz 
format, so not a big deal for me if it did foul up.  I used to do that all the 
time, but never from RL5. I build so frequently now that it really doesn't make 
much sense. I just wanted to see if it would work.
