This probably falls into the category of "Q: Why climb the mountain?" 
"A: Because it's there". And for some people, I'd venture to guess that 
building LFS at all would be categorized the same way. :)

But none of that is to say that I disagree with you. I think it's still 
a good idea to try to get a reader to rationalize a decision one way or 
another.
