If we wanted to get pedantic, we could start from an assembler and build a compiler and then the rest. The starting point is somewhat arbitrary and what we have decided is that we need Linux 2.6 and a set of defined tools. Those tools are documented. For most people, what we have is fine. If someone wants to try something else, folks on lfs-support will try to help, but the book can't cover every possibility. -- Bruce --_______________________________________________ More like linux from any distro. It basically is a "clean slate" of sorts and can turn into anything you want it to be. And like Bruce said, you can even start from an assembler and make an entire OS. Try doing that with windows! I personally start from a live CD of LFS 6.3 and construct LFS from there. It is also a great teaching tool to learn how all the packages work together. -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/lfs-dev FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/faq/ Unsubscribe: See the above information page
