I'm not sure if the community has decided what direction to take here. I 
need to get some kind of boot loader into the jh branch (currently there 
is none) so I will be playing around with a more flexible approach to 
installing one there.

Basically, I'm going to create a bootloader sub-section inside chapter 8 
"Making the LFS System Bootable". Seems appropriate. The section will 
contain (at least for now) instructions for patched grub legacy and lilo 
and allow a user to make a choice. The sub-section could also point to 
other alternatives, even listing 'use the host's bootloader 
configuration' as an option.

Maybe then the community can decide if it wants to merge the whole 
section over, or just use bits of it, or even go a completely different 
direction.
