Forgot to mention: With blfs-bootscripts, I think that giving the BLFS editors commmit privileges to a "BLFS bootscript" repository, *and* generating a nightly tarball automatically, should give enough of a backup backup if all the bootscript "leads" are unavailable for some reason. But I don't feel very strongly about this, either. Probably because I don't do any BLFS development. ;-)
