Because udev is a new and somewhat complex technology and although the LFS editors (yourself and Archaic, at least) have made a good stab at understanding the process fully, it seems to me that none of the current editors have the time available to give udev what it really requires in order to understand it at the level we need. A separate project just for udev, led by Alexander, would likely give all of us just that. Quite frankly, I'm disappointed in the behavior of the leaders of both LFS and CLFS in this matter. Where is the willingness to *work* with each other? Each side has presented an all or nothing solution. That attitude will never work, because inflexibility breeds more inflexibility. Your goal shouldn't be just what's best for you, but what is best for the entire Linux From Scratch community. That *means* peace and cooperation between the projects. You *need* to be looking to find a solution that will provide both the technical data *and* peace. If moving udev to a separate, neutral project helps accomplish this, then it's worth it. Nothing will be lost in a technical sense, and in fact, we'll probably improve.
