I think what you're looking for is described in the small-lfs hint (http://home.versateladsl.be/beckers.p/joachim.beckers/en/files/small-lfs.txt). I compiled and updated this hint from two deprecated hints on the subject, so it should be fairly up to date. Take a look at it, and I you have any comments, feel free to let me know.
