I didn't write that this is the only bug in cfdisk but it's the only reason for the crash on one of my systems. To be sure that your system exposes an other bug: Do all 0x83 partitions contain the ext3 filesystem on the affected system, i.e. no unused partitions or more unusual filesystem for example (that's the reason I wrote non-ext2/ext3, non-xfs, non-jfs instead of reiserfs)? And did you try the patch at all?
