As you notice they don't seem to look at that, they look at the spam filled bug-inetutils list.
The author(inetutils) had no clue, he thinks it's a glibc error. But I had the same problem with udev and they had to add some padding to the variable to fix it.
Now on the other side I had to patch netkitbase to work, not sure if the full patch would be needed for a x86 build.
