Haven't seen any of that myself. In fact, I didn't realize the book existed, even after mucking about with newbieish x86_64 questions on the list for some time, until you mentioned it in the perl-thread.

Hmm... Does that make me a pre-alpha-tester? Anyways, fwiw, I just completed building an x86_64 on host x86, and I could follow the book almost to the letter. But, as indicated by Ken Moffat, the pain starts with the BLFS packages... Currently I cannot get firefox or thunderbird to work.
