GCC4 has some very interesting features and it prepares the collection
for the future, but it breaks a lot of unclean C++ so many packages
wouldn't compile with GCC4. AFAIK you will need a lot of patches or cvs
to compile glibc with GCC4.

IMO it makes more sense to wait for GCC4 until the teething troubles are
healed.
