Hi all,

I just finished rendering the cross-lfs book, as I tried to go to
the link Jim provided, but as Manuel pointed out, it is a bad URL.
It may of been during a rendering section, but if you try it again it should work.

Anyway, browsing through the books, I noticed that the RaQ2 build
instructions include building OpenSSL and OpenSSH. I must have missed
this discussion totally, as I don't remember a thing about adding
these packages to LFS. Can someone fill me in on why these packages
need to be added to LFS?
These are only there for RaQ2 systems, and maybe the RaQ3 if/when we add it. The reason for this Randy is simply to have connectivity, these machines, like I have said numerous times do not have keyboards. Isn't it the point of LFS to have basic working system, on these type of machines a basic way to manage the server is necessary that's why openssh was
selected, and openssh does have a dependency on openssl.

Anyway, kudos to the LFS guys for doing the work getting this book
together. It seems like it's going to be a bunch of work keeping it
up, seeing how some architectures will use some packages, some not.
The work is the same as it is for the normal LFS book, actually it's simplier.

Does this also mean that some architectures will use package
version A, while others use package version B? I guess what I'm
asking is will the package versions vary from one architecture to
another?

The only thing that has the capability is linux and linux-libc-headers, this is because the nature of the kernel's development. There is not a detail to testing in the kernel.org kernel for
MIPS and PPC architectures.

You should probably look at the complete finished book before making comments, I think
it would give you a better understanding.

When you look at it just assume each architecture as it's own book.
