Hmm. It should be possible to remove the conditional write statement in the rst writer. This would fix the unit tests. But perhaps the conditional statement *is* needed. It was there as the result of a bug report. In that case, the way forward would be to ignore blank lines in i.check. This can be done in several ways. Perhaps the best would be to refactor i.check so that subclasses can override either the initial check or the fall-back check. Probably not today...
