The thing about Aizlewood is that he came with a bit of a reputation. He was an international (remember Kevin Hird and Jonathan Douglas were / are internationals - it means nowt) and as Leeds captain he used to be interviewed by the YEP before every game. He told the YEP that they had invented a system that could beat any team and in that 86/87 season you couldn't really argue with him 'cos we won a lot more than we lost including a great cup run. Aizlewood used to stroll through games putting in the odd bad challenge and doing a lot of pointing and shouting. I think this made him a bit of a favourite with the crowd. Once things started to go wrong though the Leeds fans looked to their captain to step up which he couldn't because at the end of the day he was a very (VERY) limited footballer. This all came to a head when he scored and give the two fingers to the Kop. That was the end of his Leeds career. Thinking about the 86/87 team under Bremner - it was a very limited team but we nearly got to an FA cup final and were very unlucky in the play off final in Brum. Was Bremner a good motivator ? Obviously it all started going wrong soon after that when he decided to boost his squad with his ex-Doony Rovers players.
Also another question for you all. Looking at Jabba stats Ian Snodin played 14 games for us in the 1986/87 season. I am confused by this 'cos he didn't play in the FA Cup semi and didn't play against Charlton in the play off final. Was he injured ? I thought he came the season after. --- Steve Gillen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Ermmmm I mention him yesterday - I named him as > Mark "2 fingers" > Aizlewood - nobody commented so I left it > > Sorry Mate > > Steve > > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On > Behalf Of Richard Walker > Sent: 25 September 2007 17:13 > To: Richard Walker; Nick Allen; > [email protected] > Subject: Re: [LU] Shite 11 > > Stop everyone.
