With 25 minutes of today's matches left, things looked rosy. We're winning
unexpectedly; QPR being held; Southend losing; surely Birmingham would want
to salvage their automatic promotion hopes with something at Barnsley?

Such is football that everything went pear-shaped, and using to the BBC
predictor, I now have us going to Pride Park needing to match Barnsley's
result and relying on Southampton keeping their heads against Southend. Even
a draw against Derby could see us down if results elsewhere go against us -
and annoyingly, West Brom (Barnsley's opposition on the final day) may well
have nothing to play for by then (except, maybe, the right to play the only
side in the play-offs not from the West Midlands...)

Of course, that's all conjecture if we don't win our remaining home games.
Burnley I can see - and Ipswich were pretty poor beating us at Portman Road,
so there is hope. St Mary's, then, is the wild card. Repeat last season's
result, and Derby could be academic.

But having spent the weekend optimistic, I have to admit that my confidence
has slipped now, more because of other teams' results than ours...
