To my mind, Venables was highly culpable for the shit we're in now. He wrote off Batty without even seeing him play and played the biggest load of wank in midfield. It was never any surprise we were terrible under him with his atrocious selection policies. He had much better players at the club than he played. I think Mark's quite right, he still had the players to take the club forward.
