Well this was a huge improvement on Wolves (albeit same result) especially in
the first half when we were actually the better team and created more and
better chances.Once again though poor defending let us down. It is awful to
keep conceding sloppy goals - last nights being a straightforward corner which
found their man who headed past Stack (who made a pretty feeble attempt it has
to be said - where was Casper ?) - just too easy. Despite that we continued to
shade the game (if not actually dominate it) with Lewis causing them a lot of
problems. Cressy should perhaps have done better with a header, Nicholls missed
a sitter blasting high and wide, Blake got into a great position but wasted the
final ball. Then came Cressys 'goal' - a lovely through pass put him through on
goal and he should have buried it, instead he totally scuffed his shot which
allowed the keeper to take the pace off it and put it onto post and ultimately
allowed the defender to hook it clear - was hard
to tell if it crossed the line or not, opinion near me was pretty divided.
Second half was a bit non event on the pitch but was party to a loud and
prolonged WACCOE off it - hence the Brum fans comment on 606 that Mick alluded
to.
We made changes with Moore, Sa and Jemal Johnson all coming on to little
effect and Howson, Blake and Healy going off.
Cressy seemed to have totally run out of steam second half and was followed
by a number of other players which led to them having a few clear openings in
the last 10 mins or so but they could not finish us off properly.
So another day another defeat and another game without a goal from us !!
Just out of interest what do other listers think of Howson ? To me he has
been almost invisible in every game I have seen him , but on the odd occasion
he does touch the ball he does show some quality, I can't get my head round
what role he has in the team and what kind of player he is meant to be. It is
obviously early days for him and it must be hard coming into a team doing as
badly as us but so far for me he just does not cut it and like most fans I like
to give players especially young home grown players a fair crack of the whip
