It also feels rather begruding - now we're really rubbish and desperate and we need people so here's a discount. Yes it is time for loyalty, but fans would feel more inclined to show that loyalty if the club had shown any loyalty or commitment to them in the last few years (especially the Bates era), rather than small price reductions to see a desperately struggling team.
We shall see! David I would say over the 57 years I've been supporting Leeds the fans' "loyalty" has always been questionable. In the pre-Revie era when we won promotion in the John Charles era the ground was seldom sold out and in our best season in the First Division before John was sold to Juventus again we seldom sold out. Crowds gradually grew over the Revie seasons and we eventually became a "big" club, but on relegation crowds dwindled and our average gate would have been not much more than it is now, gradually recovering again as Wilko took us to the promised land. Over the years the people of Leeds have not really supported the club through the bad times and although we take the piss out of Man U for having fans from all over the country I would guess the bulk of our fans are from the areas surrounding Leeds rather than from the city itself. They used to say it was because Leeds was a Rugby League city rather than football, but we've never had big crowds when things weren't going too well, whatever the price of tickets. We also seem to attract more moaning buggers than any other club as well. I've had more arguments with Leeds "fans", even when Bremner and co were turning it on than I ever had with opposition fans, and that was before fans were seggregated as they are now. _______________________________________________ the Leeds List is an unmoderated mailing list and the list administrators accept no liability for the personal views and opinions of contributors.
