On the basis that Wise is picking a team from scratch - based on Tuesday and
any other info he has - the question has to be what should the team be ?
I assume Nicholls, Stone and Einarrson are injured. Plus I do not think he
will be playing any youth players (though Bayley may make bench) so I have
discounted Rose,Howson, Lund etc. and I must admit it is hard to think what is
our best team and formation.
Derry is presumably going to play since he is vice captain but all other
places are up for grabs.
Keeper - is a real Hobsons choice - Sully who is slow and past it or Warner
who is accident prone and to blame for 2 goals on Tuesday, so I reckon Wise
will give Sully the nod (may have played together at Chelsea ?)
Kelly was one of the few to play well Tuesday and is a certainty.
Crainey was awful and has the crowd on his back so Wright will get the nod.
Killa holds onto his place but only just given the number of cock-ups this
season which have cost us goals.
Butler will be dropped ( I expect) but that leaves Foxe, not impressive on
Tuesday, Rui Marques and Gregan. I would pick Foxe but would not be too
surprised to see Gregan !
Midfield is a real puzzle and it is no wonder Blackwell played 5 in the
middle so often to try and counter the fact that any 4 in midfield will have
problems.
so Derry is a cert
I would like to see Carole given a run out on the right with his pace, but
would find it difficult to play him and Johnson - 2 out and out wingers - since
it would mean almost going 4 2 4 and no-one does that these days, especially a
team that has been leaking goals. So if you play Carole then has to be Westlake
for me on left ( though Lewis may get nod since he can show ability just not
anything like often enough)
In centre mid Douglas with his running would have to partner Derry.
Up front is hard as well, for me Cressy would get the nod over Horsefield and
I would play him with Healy and hope Wise can get the best out of him.
Otherwise go for Moore with his pace and endeavour !
