Picking Gregan may well just turn out to be Blackwell's last act as Leeds manager.
You can see the logic, trying to bolster a pretty light-weight midfield, put Gregan hasn't played in midfield for 2 years and was crap when he did.
In theory it was a 4-1-4-1 type formation - with Gregan as the defensive 1 with Westlake and Nicholls in front of him and Healy and Carole wide. I tried to explain this to the late arriving Wiggy - who looked at the size of Gregan's waistline and said more like 4-4-4-1.
The plan didn't work at all - Gregan was lost in no-mans land and some pointing aside contributed nothing but a few misplaced passes into the crowd. We had one chance first half when Westlake broke away on his own and Healy headed the cross onto the top of the bar. Coventry were marginally better and scored from the only decent move of the half.
Douglas appeared for Gregan at half-time and for about 15 minutes we were the better team - without being especially good - a few decent runs from Carole with support from Kelly and Horsfield should have done better but miscontrolled when put through by Healy.
Then it kind of petered out after around 65 minutes and by 72 the first 'Blackwell it's time to go' chants were heard - along with a few 'Bates out' ones. In truth the fans supported the team pretty well for the majority of the game, although admittedly a fair number didn't return from the bar at half-time, and it was only towards the end when any real conflict arose - as some tried to keep supporting the team and others were determined to chant at Blackwell.
In the end too similar to a few other games, we weren't totally outplayed but rarely looked like we had a plan to score a goal. Man for man we had better players than Coventy (though Nicholls was a disappointment to me) and ultimately the Manager needs to carry the can.

Douglas on a 3 year deal and then drops him to be
replaced by a bloke who hasn't played in midfield for
a year and a half and who is someone who Blackie now
believes is a centre half. FFS it's beyond belief. He
then takes Gregan off at half-time after what my mate
called a 'fucking disgraceful performance'.
He also said there was good support from Leeds -
around 3,000 but most where shouting for Blackie to go
by the end.
BLACKWELL OUT !!!
