I don't know how the system works in the U.K.,   I worked for the BC Liquor Distribution Branch for four years before I retired.  If you want to buy beer or liquor, you have an option...buy from a gov't store or buy from a private store or pub......seeing as the privates or pubs have to buy from the gov't stores, "most " product is sold at a higher price.  Also, most people don't realize that a can of beer, mostly, (not the imports) are 355ml........and bottles are 341ml.  They buy bottles because they think it's cheaper......it isn't.  I pay almost 39 dollars Canadian for a 24 can case.  That would be somewhere around 16-17 quid.  If I were to hop across the border, about five miles, it would cost me $11......about 5 quid in the U.S. for their swill.  We pay so much more because we're taxed to death, but have a fantastic health plan compared to the Amercs.  Our federal government claims Vancouver and area is such a cosmopolitan area, yet their liquor laws are so backward.
Case in point.  If I go to a football game and want to buy a beer, I have to show ID to prove I am over 19.  For S's sake.....I'm 67 years old......can't these idiots clean their glasses?
By the way, that 24-can case I spoke of......that's for Budweiser or Molson whatever....not what we call our premium beers.  If I wanted 24 Tetley's, it would set me back about  22-23 quid....if not more.

B.C. is a lager  province......in the east of Canada, it's more ale.

Cheers for beers,

Hey Grandpa

I bought 7 pints (20fl oz/568ml each) of 4.1% lager for £7 tonight.

How does that match with BC?

Our provincial government is getting smarter - it allows the importation of some more pretty darned good beer to be sold in their liquor stores.  I had the pleasure of buying a Victoria Bitter, a product from Oz.  Marvellous taste.

Now, can you lads in England tell me how beer is sold for off-site drinking...in other words...where wold you go to buy beer to take home.......and approx. Cost for a dozen......in cans or bottles?

Much obliged.  I'm trying to find out how much we are behind the rest of the world.  British Columbia is in the dark ages when it comes to liquor sales.
