I don’t think you did say that publicly, and I know for one that I would have told you not to be so bloody unrealistic!

Ultimately the ‘minimum goal’ at the start of the season was set by Ken Bates, who has, I think, some 40years experience in professional football.

I would suggest that he has a more realistic grasp of what is or isn’t feasible based on existing squads, transfer funds, players the club might be able to attract, supporter base etc etc etc, than you.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a dreamer, but its totally selfish to demand someone gets the sack because they don’t deliver your dreams, unless you are paying their wages of course.

I take it you’ve never set objectives for anyone in a work context before?

Also, another point here, us fans demand loyalty from our players and managers, and yet we are quite happy to fuck them off when it suits us and not show any loyalty back.  Absolutely amazing.

I am always surprised at how quickly you descend to foul language and an insulting tone on what should be a fairly light-hearted football-related e-mail list. I'm also surprised that you're on this list, as apparently you don't think anyone who hasn't worked in professional football for decades has any business commenting on the goings-on in a football club, on or off the pitch. Am I out of order to suggest that Ridsdale unwisely gambled with the future of the club? After all, I've never been chief executive of any business, let alone a football club. Ridsdale has years of experience in those fields. He must have known that paying GBP 7 million for Seth Johnson (and then paying him GBP 35,000 a week) was a great piece of business, and I must be an idiot for thinking it wasn't.

Or what about Jimmy Adamson? He was a brilliant manager, I'm sure, and it's certainly not my place to suggest that he was responsible for the poor on-field performance of his teams , because, after all, I've never worked in professional football and he had for decades.

If your answer to every criticism of any manager or chairman is that hey, they work in football and we don't, then what do you get out of this list? It must drive you nuts seeing all us non-professionals deigning to weigh in with opinions on such esoteric topics as our best center-half pairing, 4-4-2 or 4-5-1, Harding or Crainey at left back, etc. etc.

Cheers!

Sean
