I understand that the money never went anywhere near the team, but when the issue is how much Blackwell/Leeds have spent on transfers, values of squads etc, compared with Reading and Sheff Utd, there are 2 issues.
Where money goes to once a fee is received is as relevant (in this context) as where it comes from when buying a player, ie not at all.. Second, the knockers are banging on about how much we have spent this season, compared with the others. Thats crap. If you want to get near comparing like for like then they should take into account the full time taken to assemble said squads. As has been mentioned lots of times on the list this season, Reading have had pretty much the same squad for a few seasons. So a fair comparison on wedge spent (or otherwise) would be for the last 2 or 3 seasons. We have spent less than Crewe in that respect.. we are heavily into minus figures - and thats the point. It annoys me as much when opposition managers go on about 'the money we have spent'. We have only been able to spend that because we had to sell some great players.. which also meant we had to sell the not so great ones who all of a sudden didnt look too good when they had to stand up and be counted on their own merits. > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:leedslist- > [EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of John Boocock > Sent: 27 April 2006 12:46 > To: '[email protected]' > Subject: Re: [LU] RE: Leedslist digest, Vol 1 #103 - 4 msgs > > Mark Humphries wrote: > ===================== > > How can we have only had a profit (on transfers) of £3.5 mil? > > That season (and previous close season) we sold Smith (£7m?), > > Viduka (£4.5m), Milner (£4m?), Robinson (£5m?) and Lennon (£6m?). > > Mark, somothing so many Leeds fans still believe - however its a complex > mess :-) None of this money went anywhere other than to pay debts to > the Taxman, Petchey, Former players and managers, The bondholders and > latterly Jakob Adler for ground rent....... > > I checked transfers on soccerbase which is very rarely wrong. > > http://www.soccerbase.com > > Viduka went in season 2004/5.
