This was the best game by a team wearing Leeds United uniforms I’ve seen in a very, very long time. It’s all the more amazing because it was the same players (save Doug) as the bad old days of last season. The difference, clearly and unambiguously, was the coaching. To call it “possession football” misses the point, as does calling it “attacking football.” It was possession with a purpose. It was fast, yes, but not so much speed of foot as speed of thought.
There are questions for the future. Is the team fit enough to play this style for a whole season? How will the three additions who didn’t feature heavily in the game bed in with the team. Can Bamford play that style? But the players out there on Sunday certainly bought into what Bielsa was selling and as long as that happens this will be an enjoyable year. Michael A.
