I agree that results mean very little - it is mainly about getting the players fit and used to playing a certain way. Results can also be misleading because the teams you play against can be at different levels of fitness / preparation depending on when their season starts etc. Having said that getting outclassed by a team whose season starts the same day as ours and who are in a lower division is not good, especially when it comes after 2 other defeats , one of which was also a performance (or at least the last 10mins of a performance) which drew a lot of criticism from the manager.
The main plus point from yesterday is it shows GFH that we are still a few players short and will - hopefully- get them to find the money needed to bring those players in. Provided this does not involve selling Byram The comments from McDernott suggesting that White and Poleon are the only two players we have who can play on the wing but neither are actual wingers does not bode well for Ryan Hall - a Warnock buy which has always seemed odd. We did play yesterday without our player of the season (Byram) and our most experienced player (Diouf) We were also without Austin 'dropped' because he is suspended for the first few games, a player who at times looks good and very mobile and at others below the standard needed but who may be the best option we have alongside Murphy in the middle of the diamond with Green at the base and McCormack the apex Dave ________________________________ From: Simon Austin <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, 20 July 2013, 21:32 Subject: Re: [LU] 0 1 Does pre-season mean anything? Last year we won 6 of 7 games, and came 13th. 11/12 4 wins, 2 draws - 14th. 10/11 4 wins, 2 losses - 7th. The year we got promoted from League 1 we only won 2 and drew the other 5. First season in League 1 we lost six pre-season games, then won 8 of the first 10 league games (and would have been promoted, except for that -15). - Si On 20/07/2013 15:23, Dr Michael Benjamin wrote: > I am dreading this season. > Another poor preparation. > I hope that I'm wrong > On Jul 20, 2013 5:15 PM, "[email protected]" <[email protected]> wrote: > >> Poor start to the game for us, let them open us up easily and we are 1 >> down after 11mins >> >> Dave >> _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] MARCHING ON TOGETHER _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] MARCHING ON TOGETHER
